Harvest time
by Starla Furtado, plot #118
Harvest has been an occurrence for of the human race from back in 21,000 BC. It is the beginning and the end of our attempts at feeding ourselves, feeding pollinators and adding medicines and beauty to our lives. Grains were the first harvested foods (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_agriculture). As we progressed so did our diet.
Fast forward a few thousand centuries and here we are. City folk share a space, making our lives healthier and better by plunging our hands in soil, watering and weeding, coaxing life from the dirt. Some grow for beauty and in turn the birds and bees get a meal while we feast our eyes.
Harvest is both sad and happy, we love our gifts from our efforts and we long for the next season to start again. We literally learn as we grow, we share the knowledge and file away mistakes to be repeated later, because we are human!
We plan, we plot, we sort and we discuss. We toil, we water, and again we discuss. Then we start the harvest, the nights are getting shorter, the temps start to drop at night and the flowers stop, the seeds begin and we longingly think of what we do next year to make our garden bigger, better and more prolific and again we discuss.
Life is a circle, we are so much a part of the future.
